Ballie Mosque of Elbasan wins Religious Architecture 2025 Award

At Memo Lighting, we believe that light is more than just illumination—it’s an art form that transforms spaces, enhances emotions, and breathes new life into architectural masterpieces. Our latest achievement, the lighting design for the Ballie Mosque of Elbasan, is a testament to this philosophy.
An amazing project by Commonsense Studio, we crafted a lighting concept that seamlessly blends tradition with modern innovation, earning us the prestigious Religious Architecture 2025 Award, recognized by Building of the Year 2025.
Ballie Mosque of Elbasan is a stunning architectural landmark that embodies cultural and spiritual significance. Our goal was to create a lighting scheme that enhances its elegance, depth, and visual identity while respecting its sacred essence.
Architectural Lighting Design: A Balance of Heritage & Modernity
We used layered lighting techniques to accentuate the mosque’s domes, minarets, and archways, ensuring that every curve and intricate detail is highlighted with precision.
- Minaret & Dome Lighting: Soft uplighting enhances the mosque’s silhouette, ensuring visibility from a distance while maintaining an ethereal glow.
- Facade Accentuation: Gentle, warm-white LED projectors emphasize the mosque’s textures without overwhelming its traditional aesthetic.
- Entrance & Courtyard Lighting: A combination of wall washers and indirect lighting ensures safety while creating an inviting atmosphere for worshippers.

🌙 Spiritual Ambiance Through Light
Lighting plays a crucial role in enhancing the tranquility and sacredness of religious spaces. We carefully selected 2700K-3000K warm white LEDs, as they evoke a sense of peace, warmth, and reflection, perfectly complementing the mosque’s spiritual essence.
- Soft Interior Glow: Indirect lighting within prayer halls provides a serene environment without creating harsh contrasts.
- Candlelight Effect: Custom fixtures were designed to replicate the warmth of traditional lanterns, preserving the mosque’s historical feel.
